Six Word Saturday~Life with you

Life. With you...and the girls.

Quote of the Day~Life

"Life loves to be taken by the lapel and told: 'I'm with you kid. Let's go.'"
– Maya Angelou

About Maya Angelou
American poet and author Maya Angelou is best known for her autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. She was born in St. Louis in 1928 and grew up in rural Arkansas. Due to her activism, Martin Luther King asked her to take a leadership position in his organization. In 1993, at President Clinton's request, she wrote and performed a poem at his inauguration. She has also directed films and appeared on television. She teaches at Wake Forest University.

Are we ever ready?

When I was younger, I’ve always thought that I am invincible, that no one and nothing can ever hurt me and if ever I am so foolish enough to put myself in a painful situation, I could always take it in stride, shrug my shoulders and let go. I never really stopped to ask my self if I was ready for these things. I wanted to be part of so much life that I would go crashing through it, unaware that the heart could harden with time and the soul has the ability to retreat behind a wall.

Now I can’t remember when, or even why, did I ever stop running through life and started to count my steps and calculate my risks.

But when do you get ready, really?

Is it when you decide to run towards the cliff, or is it the moment you lift your feet off to fly?

Is it when you wake up from sleep or is it the moment you open your eyes?

Is it when you felt the warmth or is it when you can’t bear the heat when scorched?

Is it in goodbyes, or is it in the void after parting?

Is it in the words or in the expression of it?

Are we ever ready, really?

Off to Caramoan Peninsula

The 8th season of Koh-Lanta (French edition of Survivor), was shot entirely in Caramoan. TV director Corinne Vaillant, stated that "the powdery sand, the coconuts on Gota beach and the neighboring islets are a 'dream' for the French people. We chose Caramoan because it’s really wild. It’s necessary that contestants don’t see anything other than nature for them to believe that they’re really lost in the wilds.”

Mellow Yellow Monday~Orchids

My blog template has taken a yellow skin, though I might change this again soon. I'm not yet satisfied. My previous template has right and left and looks a bit messy with all my badges and buttons all over the place, so I'm looking for a template with 2 or 3 right side bars, but maybe in dark tones.

And here's something yellow for today.

Quote of the Day~Choice

"Ruin and recovering are both from within."
– Epictetus

Epictetus, the Roman-era Stoic philosopher, lived a very ascetic life, believing that happiness came from living "according to the will of nature" and that free will comes from how we respond to circumstances. He was born in 55 AD in what is now Turkey and spent most of his life in Rome. He spent his youth as a slave and became crippled due to his master's harsh treatment. He was later exiled to Greece, where he founded a school and wrote his most famed work, The Discourses. He died in 135.

R is for......Rowena!

(click button to join the fun!)

I think my name's the most common name ...and the world's most boring! There where times that I wish I am a Sasha or a Rachel! But well, I'm stuck with it, so I might as well live with it!

Old ladies would say that your name is what you are, that's why they name their babies by the saint or of the day they were born so these babies will imbibe the characteristics of the saints or personalities they where named after.

So what's in a name?

I googled my name and here is what I found:

Rowena \ro-wena, rowe-na\ is pronounced roh-EEN-ah, roh-ENN-ah. It is of Old German origin, and its meaning is "fame and happiness". Also possibly (Welsh) "slender and fair".

Do I match?
  1. fame? - check. Not the superstar quality but definitely not a wallpaper!
  2. happiness ? - check. I take every opportunity to be happy, and to share joy wherever I can.
  3. slender? - definitely NOT! I'm not waif-looking, if that what it means.
  4. fair? - check.

...that's 3 out of four.

this is me!

Other known Rowenas:
  • Rowena Jackson - Prima Ballerina from New Zealand.
  •  It was popularized by Sir Walter Scott, who used it for a character in his novel 'Ivanhoe' (1819).
  • Rowena Ravenclaw, one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter book series.

One Liner Thoughts
