Pacman vs Hiitman on May 2,2009

I think this will be the greatest fight yet in the world of boxing. I'm not much of a boxing fan, but I always make it a point to watch Manny Pacquiao fight on the ring. He is the very symbol of HOPE amidst the economic turbulence among Filipinos. He is a Cinderella, the kind of rags-to-riches life story that puts me in awe. He sold cigarettes in the streets when he was a boy and now after a 14-year career, he one of the richest men in this country. Politicians are fighting to share the limelight with this superhero and crime rates lower when Manny fights.

So my hats to you, Manny!

Thursday Thunks 043009

(come join the fun, find it here @ Thursday Thunks!)

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen & Kimber via phone & Skype conference, the color mango and the number 70566.

1. What color is your front door? Dark, boring brown
2. We discussed our folks in previous TT so now tell me about your siblings. If you are an only child, tell me whether or not you wanted siblings, older, younger etc.Well, now. I'm the eldest of 4. No, I'm the 5th of 8... ;) I actually have 4 half-siblings older than me though I haven't met them, or even talked about them at home ( only half-whispers from my relatives). They (not the half-siblings) are Roger, who's 30 and married with 2 kids; Melchor ( the taciturn one)  who is 10 years younger than I am and Rhenz our youngest who is 12 years younger.
3. What color/type butterfly is your favorite? I like all shades and colors of butterflies, though I seldom see them here in the city except in butterfly gardens set up in malls.
4. Will you be celebrating Cinco De Mayo? No. But here in the Philippines, we have May 1 as Labor Day and May 7 as my nth birthday! ;)
5. Oprah- love her, hate her, or don't care? Don't care. I love Tyra Banks more...
6. Are you worried about the spread of swine flu? Yes, but not panicky. Certain precautions must taken though. News advisories are very helpful.
7. Hard or soft pillows? Soft and hard pillows.
8. How many trees are in your neighbor's yard? Let me think...I think there are no trees around my neighbors houses because there's no yard, just apartment complexes and pavements and walls...
9. What was the color of the last car you saw? I think it was silver.
10. When does your driver's license expire? On my birthday.
11. Look at the clock on your computer and type the numbers backwards. 7021. Why? :)

12. When you put your pants on, what leg do you put in first? I don't know. Does it matter? I think my left foot.
13. How would you respond to this letter if you were an advice columnist.

I am an ugly woman. I was an ugly baby and child even! It is a fact. I am 36 now and I have never had a boyfriend, and I am still a virgin.

Due to me not having men in my life, I have poured everything I have in to education and my career. At 36 I am the youngest (and first female CEO) at a big, successful, tech company. I have over 200 personal patents and millions of pounds in investments.

I have everything: huge house, holiday villa in Spain, 3 cars, power boat, a race horse, etc. but as much I try to talk myself into everything being “great” I cannot help but to miss that special someone to share it all with.

Most of my friends are married with kids and I feel like I am gradually drifting away from them also.

Where can I find someone to marry an ugly woman?
Dear Ugly Woman,

I think you are focusing too much on your "outside" appearance. Beauty is relative, you know. As long as you are not mean mean to kids and animals, then don't lose hope! Love, and you will be loved.

Speechless

…since the start of April. I even missed some of my favorite memes which I often play. I‘ve been meaning to write but I can’t put these thoughts into sensible sentences. There are things running through my head that I wish to verbalize but as soon as the words form, they vanish into thin air and I’ve been *whining* about it to my bff Anne. She says it’s my defense mech from facing certain issues.

Hmpf. Maybe. Ok, fine. I am. On defensive mode. **arms crossed**
Whew! I haven’t felt this confusion before, the undecided kind . Maybe I’m at this point in my life where I am waiting for something to happen but scared to death that there will. But don't worry about me ;), I'm not the kind to plod along through the day with heavy shoulders and dragging feet. I always find small joys in my life that keeps me sane. It's just that there's always this something at the back of my head, you know.

For one thing, I keep thinking about little Tati. I met her one ordinary day in February, and I instantly liked her. JV, my heart, brought her in the office so they can be together (the child's in the custody of the mother, but with due respect to JV, I don't want to delve into their issue here). I arrived late (*sigh* as usual) and I saw her sticking my colored post-its on my table. She was wearing a red dress and pink shoes and a sweet smile just like her father's! I saw Tati gazing ( with a look so honest only children make) at her father that I had this urge to draw her in my arms. My first love with a kid, I guess.

Later that morning, one of our other co-worker joked that "her daddy's going away" and she cried clinging to his feet. People could be so tactless sometimes, really. For a moment there, I wanted to snap at that person, but I controlled myself because I don't want to let them know that there's something going between JV and me. I've been playing this scene over and over in my mind and I begin to wonder if choosing not to have a child is the right path for me.

Maybe I'm missing something. But then, relationships are fragile. I remember JV sharing with me one conversation he had with her, when she asked him when he'll be home and he wasn't able to answer as honestly as he would to an adult. My heart broke for him. I don't know if I could subject my would-be-child to that kind of circumstance in case my relationship with the father doesn't work.

Anyone who have visited this blog would know JV, as he has been the subject of my many rantings here. It's a bit hard to admit in public that I cannot call him my own, as I have shared in my previous post. He is legally free, fyi. It's just that he has responsibilities that he needs to address even before he met me. He'll be less than a man if he would just abandon them and I'd be less than a woman if I'd let him, and which case this relationship will lose its meaning if we will become less of what we are, right. We almost said goodbye, I even wrote him a goodbye loveletter, but he came back so maybe there is hope for us. And so, I want to take this relationship slow.

But god!, I hate the waiting...waiting...

Dance like there's nobody watching

There is a wonderful song by Mario Frangoulis that is called "Dance". Here are the lyrics. If you get a chance to listen to it you'll love it.
I see those vulnerable eyes
They're as deep as the darkest of oceans
I sense the loneliest heart
Holding back your fragile emotions
I feel you wanna let go
Inside of my arms just know
You're safe with me, let's

Dance like there's nobody watching
Sing as if no one is listening to...
What you're hearing
Love like you've never been hurt before
Try to forget if you can
And just dance

I've known the coldest of nights
Lay awake trying to stop myself dreaming
There in the emptiest space
In my head the music stopped playing
Right now all I wanna do
Is lose myself in you and me
Just be,let's

Dance like there's nobody watching
Sing as if no one is listening to...
What you're hearing
Love like you've never been hurt before
Try to forget if you can
And just dance

Why don't we dance and pretend we know how to fly
Like we've never been scared of heights
No fear of falling
Love like we've never been hurt before
Forget where our feet will land
And just dance

Let's dance, JV. Maybe then, we'll never fear anymore.

Slow Dance

A poem by a cancer-stricken kid In the spirit of the season, I am reprinting the poem Slow Dance supposedly written by a child while dying of cancer at a New York hospital a few years ago.
Slow Dance
Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down,
Don’t dance too fast.
Time is short,
The music won’t last.
Do you run through each day
Or do you fly?
When you ask, “How are you?”
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You’d better slow down,
Don’t dance too fast.
Time is short,
The music won’t last.
Ever told your child,
“We’ll do it tomorrow?”
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch
Let a good friendship die
‘Cause you never had time
To call and say, “Hi?”
You’d better show down,
Don’t dance too fast.
Time is short,
The music won’t last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through
your day,
It is like an unopened gift...
Thrown away.
Life is not a race,
Do take it slower.
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

Chip Racist Remark

AFP PHOTO/PHILIPPE LOPEZ

Forgive the pun.
No matter how I try to make this blog as apolitical as possible, there are still certain issues that I can't help but take up here. Like Mr. Tsao Chip's article in HK Magazine, calling Philippines a "nation of servants" (read complete article here) and that was a very hard and arrogant statement.

Racism at it's best.

People could be so irresponsible sometimes despite their worldly experiences and that pettiness could still flourish even among the educated. Despite Mr. Tsao's public apology to the Philippine government earlier this week, hundreds of Filipinos still protested Sunday in HK's Central financial district and carried signs that said, "No Chip shots at Filipinos" and "We are workers, not slaves."

But where will this Filipino indignation go? We protested because Mr. Tsao has offended our sensibilities. We march on the streets to show our slight, but where do our actions take us? We can not walk out of Hong Kong, or any other country for that matter, even when Mr Tsao's remarks has hurt us. There will always be future domestic helpers, caregivers , OCW's all over the world.

Complicated Hearts

Complicated.
This is what we write in our social networks to describe our relationships that are...errr.."complicated".
I always go for men who are exciting, with lots of conversation opportunities, who are savvy, "astig" , a "muy simpatico". But these men make love affairs complicated, at least for me, from my own experiences.
I'm just speaking about one guy, JV, actually. We are more than , okay more than, casually dating since the start of this year and I'm starting to feel that this "more than casual" thing is getting deeper. At least for me. I don't know about him. I 'm afraid to ask. I'm afraid if he does not feel the same way but I'm scared to death if he does. So I don't ask.
Crazy.
...and complicated. Maybe it's just me.
It's just that it feels good to find him beside me in the dark, though he keeps almost all of the pillows to himself and invades half of my bed. The first night I haven't slept a wink, I never felt so warm and wanted. He whispered things to my ear, and felt his warm breath on my neck as he pulled me to him as he slept. I whispered I love you, but I don't think he heard.
But he has to go home to somebody else.
Yes, it's complicated.
And so I will not force him to stay.
But I will not push him away, either.

Most of the time she and I do not see eye to eye, we would argue and all, but i love her still. 7. Which search engine do you use most often? Google 8. Did you participate in Earth Hour? Yes. We turned off our houselights and since it was hot and humid, my flatmate and I just went to Paseo de Sta Rosa and had our dinner at Bacolod Chicken, Mocha Latte at Starbucks and had a couple of San Mig Lights. [caption id="attachment_1243" align="aligncenter" width="128" caption="@the Paseo de Sta Rosa with just acoustics, candles, and beer"]@the paseo de Sta Rosa with just acoustics, candles, and beer[/caption] 9. What was the last new-to-you movie you watched? Was it in the theater or on DVD? Was it good? I watched the "Twilight" 10. If you do something embarrassing, do you laugh it off, or sit & worry about it? LMAO 11. Where is your favorite spot in your home to sit & relax? In my room, with my dimlight on and my Pooh pillow. Happy thunking!
